Why Clean Hydraulic Oils ?
70% of machinery failures occur due to contamination in oils. - particles less than 7 micron size are proven to create the most damage but there is no provision in any hydraulic systems to remove these as it makes machinery costly.
Hydraulic Oil Maintenance / Oil Properties / Oil Specifications
Cleanliness : Of paramount importance in clean systems like Hydraulics, Transmissions, Compressors, is the cleanliness level of the oil. Cleanliness is specified with the help of an ISO particle count. ISO code varies with the level of precision of the component.Moisture content : Moisture is a universal contaminant and is found in all types of oil in some measure. Oils never remain dry and are generally hydroscopic to some extend. It absorbs and retains moisture in dissolved state. The amount of moisture dissolved in the oil varies with the type of the oil as well as temperature.
Acidity of the Oil : Other property that decides the quality or the life cycle of the oil is by measuring the acidity levels. As oil additives that protect the oil get consumed in countering the effects of acidity the oil cannot provide the necessary lubrication properties due to the formation of sludge and varnish.
